Doable Organization Tips For Work-from-Home Moms

Being a mom is already a full-time job. But when mom works from home, that adds to the challenge of keeping everything in check.

I remember the chaos of keeping up with Marisa and Adrian’s after school activities, taking mom to her doctor appointments and make time for blogging. It felt like there was never enough hours in a day for me but I know I’m preaching to the choir!

Time is the enemy mamas but I do have some organization tips that can help you balance your home and work life.

I know each of us has our own crazy day filled with appointments and other events. But the tips I’m about to share have worked for me and I’m a hot mess when it comes to being organized! And, these can be tailored to your mom life so that you’ll have all your duckies in a row!

Organization Tips For Your Work-from-Home Life

There are lots of misconceptions about working from home. But the truth of the matter is if you don’t have your sh*t together, you’ll waste a lot of time and not get much done.

So here’s how you can manage your work-from-home life and your mom life.

De-Clutter Your Work Area

I’ve heard that a messy desk is a sign of genius. Well, I’m no genius but by the end of the day my desk is a mess. I have notes everywhere, empty bottles of water, my 5 lb. dumbbells, pens and highlighters all over the place and a bottle of Tylenol. 

That’s not what you want to wake up to when you get ready to start your work day. It’s like waking up to a sink full of dishes…you don’t even feel like cooking anymore with dishes piled up waiting to be washed. At least I don’t, hehe.

The same can be said with a messy desk. When you see the clutter around your desk it can block your creative juices.

So De-Clutter your work area at the end of the day to start the next day off with a clean work space.

Set Reminders For Meetings And Calls

At the end of your work day (mine is usually at night) if you’ve got stuff on your mind you don’t want to forget about the next morning, set reminders on your calendar for meetings, interviews or other events. Write it on a notebook or on a post-it to help you remember.

Believe it or not, I use all three! πŸ™‚

To-Do Lists

Whether you have a work-from-home job or home-based business a to-do list of the tasks you do daily will keep you organized.

You can type it out on a spreadsheet and color-code like the one I have on Google Drive for easy access. I also have a paper copy so I can write notes on writable tabs. I know it’s kinda weird but it helps me keep everything in the ole noggin’.

Now let’s go over some tips for your home life.

For You

I don’t want to bust your bubble mama but the best thing you can do for yourself is to get up before the kids. An extra thirty minutes to an hour to wake up, get dressed, have coffee, maybe even catch the news can help ease the morning rush.

Pick out your outfit for the next day and keep hair styles simple…think mom bun! πŸ™‚

Meal Prep

I failed at this but you’ll probably have better luck than I did. Meal prepping saves a lot of time. So if you can prep a week’s worth of meals and afternoon snacks ahead of time that’ll give you more time to do other things.

For Kids

Getting the kids ready for school is no easy task. So to ease the morning rush, here are some things you can do in your night time routine.

  • Pick out clothes at bedtime for the next day.
  • Make sure homework is done, papers are signed and in the backpack. Select a special place for them so there are no lost homework or backpack fire drills in the morning. Been there plenty of times! πŸ™‚
  • Meal prep school lunches for the week.

Add More Time On The Clock

One of my boys was so slow in the morning. So I set the clock 20 minutes ahead to get more time in order to stay on schedule when my son wasn’t.

Organize Appointments and Special Events

Keep appointments and special events in one calendar for the whole family.
