Spending hours in front of the computer definitely takes its toll on the body. The shoulders, neck and back take a beating the longer we sit at our desk without moving. I know I’m probably preaching to the choir, right? We all know how important it is to take frequent breaks and stretch the muscles to keep the blood circulating.
But sometimes there are days when you’ve got a lot going on and taking a break is the last thing on your mind.
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t take as many breaks as I should but I plan on taking care of myself more in the new year and it’s going to start with incorporating a stretch routine while I’m working and being consistent with it.
Dangers of Sitting Too Long
Sitting in front of the computer for hours on end can lead to back problems, muscle degeneration and poor circulation in the legs. It can also cause more serious health problems like heart disease and diabetes. The Mayo Clinic also talks about the risks of sitting too much.
But if we do some form of stretching, even if it’s only for 10 minutes, our chances of getting a serious illness decreases.
